Description
These beautiful rugs are woven on basic looms in Mexico’s Oaxaca state – home of the Zapotec people.
They are the original and genuine rug of this type – many of the patterns are copied for mass-produced rugs and blankets. Consider these rugs works of art as well as floor coverings.
Many people put them on the wall as hangings because they are so lovely.
The rugs are made in Teotitlan del Valle, a small community outside the city of Oaxaca.
We work with a few families who produce these classic and beautiful rugs.
The rugs are made from local wool and all dyes are natural – such as conchineal and indigo.
Each rug takes many hours of skilled labour to be made. Prices are determined according to the size of the rug, the colour, the level of detail and the artisan.
This beautiful rug has lots of detail and classic Zapotec designs; it measures 150 cm by 80 cm.
